If you do not have a will, the government controls your legacy. If you have a will, you should update it regularly. Many individuals make legacy gifts through their wills because it’s easy and revocable. Also, charitable gifts are not subject to estate taxes. You can revise your will at any time to reflect changes in your personal circumstances.
You can remember Young America’s Foundation in your will by making a gift of a specific amount, a percentage of your estate, or your residuary estate (your remaining assets once your other gifts and costs have been paid). Many individuals bequeath their residuary estate to Young America’s Foundation because it enables them to meet personal obligations and continue their life’s work. Here is sample language to share with your attorney:
I give, devise and bequeath to Young America’s Foundation, tax identification number 23-7042029, 110 Elden Street, Herndon, Virginia 20170 (insert percentage, amount or nature of gift, or remainder of estate) to be used for educational purposes (or to support the Reagan Ranch and activities at the Reagan Ranch Center).
Your attorney can use this language to create a new will or update an existing will by adding a codicil.
